Pumpkin Patch

Visit Bates Nut Farm for GIANT pumpkin
Made our annual trip to pick out pumpkins at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center. It was Greenlee's second trip up there. Last year we took her right after we got her. She still was a bit shocked by the move. This year she was flying out the car door and made a mad dash for the hot dog stand! The hay bales to sit on where gone so I hung out like a vulture ready to pounce on one of the few picnic tables. After a quick lunch, lots of barking from Diego and wide eyed begging from lil G we headed to the pumpkin fields. The only pupkins in the fields are called Big Macs. They are huge (rotting) pumpkins. We picked out a good carving pumpkin then the dogs were over it. It was sunny and hot. We found some shade, took a few more pictures, grabbed a few small pumpkins and headed out for the day. A pretty good success for Greenlee's second trip to the patch. She refused to wear the pumpkin shirt but Diego was hamming it up. Off to find some dog friendly Halloween fun to add to the bucket list!

Got fleas?

Get Fleas

Greenlee marked this one off the list. Uggh. The hot weather brought a bumper crop of fleas. Greenlee has a really short coat but still managed to get fleas. She's had a bath, flea comb session (which she hated) and Frontline. Washed all the dog beds and toys, vaccumed and put baking soda on the carpet. Here's hoping the fleas are gone soon.

Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals

Greenlee competed in the Weiner dog races while I was in Panama. She didn't complete the race but I think she had fun anyway. Thank you so much to Fatima and Chuck for taking her to the practice race on media day and to the event last Saturday. I will be building a practice gate and she will be in training for next year :)

More fun for the bucket list

Found a few new things to add to the bucket list:

-Dog Days of Summer at The Water Garden at Cuyamaca College. Every wednesday night in summer from 4-7 pm. Free entry.

-Kayaking, yoga and more with Leash Your Fitness! The dogs received a free class coupon at the party last week. Not sure Greenlee will be up for yoga but hoping to go kayaking!

-Eat at Anthony's Fish Grotto. The La Mesa location allows lakeside dining with your dog and has a dog park. Great!

-Free Fido Meal at Craves in OB.

Party Animal!

National Dog Party Day

Wow what a blast at National Dog Party Day in San Diego! Greenlee is a party animal. She was non stop moving around at Camp Run A Mutt.

Ready to party!

The night started with a bunch of intros and thank yous. When the MC requested "paws up" and cheering, Diego and Greenlee went nuts! The both bark everytime people clap. Then the party games started. After Snoopy Says What? which both dogs dropped out of early, we walked around and gobbled snacks. The party was a fundraiser for SNAP , a spay and neuter mobile clinic. The SNAP volunteers walked around with homemade appetizers. All the food was dog friendly in case it ended up on the floor.  Greenlee would not get out of the way at the Honest Kitchen demo table. She waited and waited for a sample. The demo girl gave her one tiny scoop! She wanted the whole giant bowl.

Tunnel of love game

Fast but she wouldn't kiss me at the end.
Greenlee and I participated in the tunnel of love game. She was excited to go through the tunnel and could barely wait her turn. The game involved kissing your dog, crawling through an agility tunnel with them, then getting them to kiss you at the end. Greenlee dashed through the tunnel and kept going! Ususally she's in your face and always trying to lick your face. So we lost the game but I'm hopeful she will kick butt at the Weiner Dog races in August.

Here are more pictures from the party. Can't wait to go again!
Diego making friends. He was great!

Chuck was a good sport and went too.

What a get up.

Hello big dog!

The bucket was a little big. Someone brought out small bowls after awhile.

Ready for National Dog Party Day!

Greenlee is back from her stay at Victoria's Doggie Hotel. Victoria said she ran circles around the big dogs and led the pack on their walks. She is doing amazingly well and is  gaining weight, running laps around the yard like a crazy dog, and chewing up as many dog toys as possible.

I received a few suggestions to add to the bucket list:
Eat a breakfast burrito. (Not sure she will get the whole thing)
Meet Saylor and go to the park.
Go to the OB Farmer's Market.

I should be back to taking her around to get things marked off her list this week and will post a few pictures. The Dog Days of Summer application includes a lot of paperwork and will require me to get a dog license. I've failed to do this yet but need to get on it. The big game will be July 17. Hopefully she makes the invite list. National Dog Party Day is next week. Our tickets are booked and we all look foward to heading to Camp Run A Mutt for the best dog party around.

They won't sit still. The ground was too hot.

Just curious

Greenlee got invited to a birthday party! So bummed she can't go. She's spending the week at Victoria's doggie hotel while we are gone. Definitly need to add Go to a doggie birthday party to the bucket list and maybe this: National Dog Party Day!

Vet check

Greenlee went to the vet today for a recheck. She gained almost a pound and the vet was happy to see her full of life. She was so sick and skinny a few weeks ago. Makes me hopefull.

Yappy Hour

All American Yappy Hour is marked off the bucket list. Turned out to be pretty lame. La Jolla Brew House is a dog friendly  restaurant which is cool.  Yappy hour was a fundraiser for a local dog rescue. Greenlee and I were looking foward to ordering from the dog menu, wining the snug pet resort gift certificate, seeing the adoptable dogs and raising money for the rescue. Chuck and I got there with Greenlee a half hour after it started. There was one other group with a dog and no one from the rescue. After awhile three ladies showed up, wondering where to go and what they needed to do. Turns out they were from the rescue! They didn't have any dogs, never spoke to us, were totally disorganized, didn't know how to hold a raffle and spent the next hour or so trying to figure out how to hold a raffle for the amazing prizes the owner of the restaurant gave them. Not once did they approach us, thank us for coming or ask for a donation. Lame. By the time we left there were 5 dogs and still no raffle tickets to sell. Needless to say the rescue did not get a donation from us, I left without any prizes, and Greenlee never got to see the doggie menu. She did get a free dog bone though so it wasn't a total waste. And I have renewed appreciation for Sustainable Harvest International and San Diego AAZK- two organizations that know how to raise money and do amazing things!

Picnic at Bernardo Winery

Bernardo Winery is dog friendly. This is definitly going to the top of the list. It may be a few days before I can go but what a unique place to hang out with your dog and drink wine!

Hit the Beach as much as possible

It's so cold!
One of the great things about San Diego is the beach. So I decided to add "hit the beach as much as possible" to Greenlee's bucket list. Imperial Beach is my favorite place. It's always empty, plenty of parking and dogs are allowed 24/7 (Most beaches limit the times dogs are allowed on the beach). It was cloudy, breezy and hightide. Not the best beach weather and skinny minnie was shaking like crazy. We spent most of the time walking on the street right behind the beach where it wasn't so cold. Hoping to head out again soon to see the seals in La Jolla and the boardwalk at Mission Beach.

Let's go now.
Greenlee is very energetic and hungry today. She's getting her speed back and hopefully will kick butt at the Weiner dog races August 4th.

Bucket List

Greenlee started having health problems in January. After months of vet visits, she had surgery last Friday. (Many thanks to my co-workers for taking care of the monkeys when I needed to leave early. ) The diagnosis isn't too good and it made me sad. So I decided to turn things around and enjoy time with my sweet daschund while I can. I plan on tagging along with  Greenlee on her bucket list. So far the bucket list is:
Run the Weiner dog races at Qualcomm
Go to a Padres game
Attend All American Yappy Hour
Doggie Street Fest 2012
Write San Diego Pets magazine

I'm looking for more things to do. Feel free to write a comment with suggestions.

Resting up

What's in a name?

Why Greenlee? Greenlee frequently gets misprounounced or misheard. She's called Greenie, Granlee, Greenly and even Branie and Angelina. She has several nicknames including skinny minnie and G force. When I went to get her in October I asked "What's with the name?" Greenlee was named after a soap opera star from  All My Children and use to live with a cat named  Leo.
